Carter Mountain Brass Band is part of a tradition extending back to the 1800’s in both American and Great Britain.
Technological advances in metallurgy at that time allowed for the development of brass instruments that were easier to
play (with the invention of valves) and not too expensive to buy.
Town bands in America and company/business sponsored bands in Great Britain began to flourish. This tradition has continued
very strongly and uninterrupted in Great Britain. In the U.S. it is having a revival, spurred by the recent interest in
Civil War re-enactments.
Carter Mountain Brass Band’s repertoire reflects the rich heritage of brass music, not only form the Civil War period,
but extending back to the 16th century before the invention of valves, and going forward to today’s modern music.

Come take a trip with us back through musical time and enjoy the many varieties and styles of brass music.
